There are a couple of basic tools that we all tend to buy multiple times over the years: caulk guns, chalk lines and putty knives to name a few.  But, there aren’t a lot of reviews out about tools like this.  Maybe because they are so simple in design and function that we just don’t think that much about which ones to buy.  For that reason, I was so excited to get to review this Stanley Bostitch Aluminum Chalk Reel.

With two great features: 100’ of line and a side chalk view window, this tool is easy to use.  And in addition, it’s a durable chalk line.  Once you use this one, you will probably ditch your older versions.  And, are you ready for this?  It comes with a 100 year Limited Warranty.  The line is strong (premium polymer string that resists breakage and fraying) and the construction of the tool is solid.  The housing is die-cast aluminum, and it has a stainless steel interlocking hook for joining lines.  This is one to write your name on, before a fellow worker puts it in his tool box.

Oh, and a couple of other features that Stanley Bostitch boasts about:  With the 5:1 gear ratio, the claim is that is rewinds 5x faster than standard chalk lines.  While I didn’t race this one against others, it wound easily and as quickly as I’d want it to.  Another feature that you might be interested in is the quick gear release…. All this means in that the crank won’t spin when you are pulling the line out.
