Ryobi Tek4 MPS Rapid Charger and 4V Battery
There are multiple tools in the Ryobi Tek4 line. Some of them come with a battery and a standard charger, and some come with the tool only. If you’re going to invest in Tek4 family of cool tools and gadgets, you might want to consider purchasing the MPS Rapid Charger and 4V Battery Pack. It’s not necessity if you have a 4V battery and standard charger, but it is convenient. And if you get a tool that doesn’t have the battery included, it’s only about a $10 upcharge (over the combined price of the battery and standard charger sold separately) to get the Rapid Charger with the multiple charging options, so why not?
Out of the package, I plugged the charger into an outlet using the 12V DC Adaptor, but there’s also the option of plugging it in via the included USB adaptor (that’s why it’s called a Multiple Power Source Charging System). The package claims it will charge a battery in 36 minutes. It charged mine a bit faster at just under 30. If you do choose to use the USB option, it takes significantly longer to charge… Up to 5 hours, but the choice is yours. As the battery is charging the fuel gauge lights flash green, the first green light that turns solid indicates that the battery is 1/3 charged. The second solid green indicates 2/3 fully charged, and once all 3 are solid green, your battery is charged.
There are two battery ports, but you can only charge one battery at a time. While the one battery is charging the fuel gauge gives you the charge level for one battery while charging the other. The fuel gauge is lit with bright LED lights and is very visible and easy to read.
There is also a keyhole slot on the back of the charger that gives you the option of hanging it if you want. I think I’ll keep mine portable. And it’s Energy Star approved. So as an example, if you were using standard Alkaline batteries to provide the same amount of power, you might go through 6,000 of them in the same lifetime of this one 4V battery. At least that’s what Ryobi says, and I have no way to dispute them. And since the 4V battery is a Lithium-Ion, you get more consistent power through each charge of the battery.
