Ryobi Tek4 5W Flashlight RP4450 - Tool Review

I have not come across one of the Tek4 tools so far that I have not liked, and the Ryobi Tek4 LED Hi-Beam Flashlight is no exception.  If you read other reviews online, you’ll see that I’m not alone.  And, as I’ve said in past Tek4 reviews, once you get the batteries and pick up a couple of the tools, you’ll want to keep adding to your collection.

So, let’s get right to it.  What’s so special about this flashlight?  Well for starters, it shines exceptionally bright, like a Maglite, but it’s not nearly as heavy, and since it uses the 4v lithium-ion battery, it’s completely rechargeable and the battery life lasts a long time. The manufacturer says it offers 220 lumens and has a lifetime LED bulb.  As I’ve said in past reviews, I am not really sure how to do head-to-head comparisons of lumens, but suffice it to say, this is one of the brightest flashlights I’ve ever owned.  I have a long back yard, in fact, it’s almost an acre long and I can stand at the back of the house, turn the light on and see all the way to the back tree line, including the shining eyes of my two dogs in the back.  And it lights up the whole yard!

Next… It’s waterproof and impact and dust resistant.  I dunked it in my sink for a bit to make sure it didn’t take on water, and it didn’t.  And as far as dust and impact resistant, well it stacks up there too.  After being my companion on a television shoot for several weeks in the woods, in back yards, in fields in the country, and rolling around the back of my SUV, it stood up just fine.  That’s enough proof for me.

The one complaint I saw a few times in other reviews is that the switch was a bit hard to find.  I say “STOP WHINING”!!! Seriously, I’d much rather have this type of click on/off button then to have to twist the cap wondering in batteries are about to start popping out, or having a push up or down button.  Let me give you guys a hint.  Rest your pointer finger on the top of the flashlight handle.  Rest your thumb on the rubber indention.  That’s the switch!  Press it and it comes on.  Press it again and it goes off.  It’s really not as difficult as some other reviews made it seem.  And the switch feels very protected to me, which is pretty important.

Really, I don’t have anything bad to say about this flashlight.  The only negative might be the price, for around $50.  But since that price includes a battery and charger and a 2 year warranty, it’s really not all that bad.  After all, you pay for quality, and if you want bright light, comfort, lightweight, waterproof, shock and dust resistance, then that’s a bargain!
