I just finished using the PORTER CABLE 18V CORDLESS JIGSAW for a Basketball Backboard Project at my house.

It seems that the Spring Breakers here in Panama City Beach enjoy getting into mischief, and that includes destruction of property.  So, it didn’t come as surprise, that once again this year, they tore our kids’ Basketball Goal down.  So, since I do have some carpentry skills, ifI say so myself, I was determined to build a Spring Breaker Proof Backboard.

  • Step One: Head to the local building supply for ¾” marine grade plywood.
  • Step Two: Remove the existing backboard.
  • Step Three: Trace the old backboard and create a pattern for the new one.
  • Step Four: Break out the PORTER CABLE 18V CORDLESS JIGSAW.  (Finally, I get to the fun stuff!)

Here's what I found:

I found the blade to be very easily installed or changed (tool-free).  The base plate is very hardy.  Because of the way the adjustment wheel is designed, it’s easier to loosen for adjustment than tighten.

The tool is very sturdy and feels like it is designed for heavy-duty work. I wasn’t thrilled with the size of the handle on the tool.  I found it to be a bit larger in circumference that I would prefer.

But, another plus is the ease of changing the three orbital settings.  However, I would like to see the safety thumb trigger a little easier to use, as I found it hard to depress.

The power and durability of this tool impressed me, especially for a cordless saw.  The Porter Cable consistent quality shines through, and with with minimal blade sway.
