DEWALT DCF885 20V MAX Lithium Ion 1/4” Impact Driver Review
DEWALT has always been the brand that catered to the professional, and I have really enjoyed working with the 20V Max line and putting them to the test. That being said, here’s the next review in the DEWALT 20V Max Lithium Ion line: The DEWALT DCF885 20V Max Lithium Ion 1/4” Impact Driver.
DEWALT boasts about these features on the tool:
- It’s compact size: 5.55” inches front to back and a very meager 2.8lbs.
- Three LED lights with a 20 second delay after you release the trigger
- One handed loading ¼” hex chuck accepts 1” bit tips
- Runs at up to 2,800 RPM, which is 15% faster than DEWALT 18V Impact Drivers on the market
So here’s what I think. Before we even get into power and performance, let’s talk about how the tool feels in your hand. Simply put: it feels good. Its ergonomic and lightweight design, make it easy to hold. Both the trigger and the directional switch are easy to reach and they operate smoothly. And the compact size allows access and great maneuverability in tight or awkward spaces.
I know a lot of guys really like belt clips. I’ve never been a big fan myself. However, I like the design of this one. You can wear it on either side of the driver. And I like it because it's removable. So if I want to get it out of the way, I can.
One of my favorite highlights of this impact driver is the 3 LED Lights strategically placed around the chuck. The lights turn on with the trigger and stay on 20 seconds after the trigger is released. They are surprisingly bright and add a lot of light when working in low light areas.
The Impact Driver comes with a 30-minute quick charger and 2 batteries, either 1.5 AH Battery or 3.0 AH Battery depending on the model and the kit selected.
One of the coolest features on these batteries is the 3 LIGHT LED LIGHT FUEL GUAGE SYSTEM that with a press of the button, which immediately indicates state of charge.
SUMMARY:
My opinion: DEWALT has a winner in the DCF885 20V MAX Lithium Ion 1/4” Impact Driver. From a Contractor's point of view the 20V MAX Lithium Ion batteries have given me a lot more usage time with the Impact Driver. The batteries hold a charge a lot longer and the added convenience of the LED fuel gauge is an added convenience. Better ergonomic design, lighter weight, new battery design, increased power and speed make this Impact Driver a good one for any professional or high end DIYer.
