M18 SawZall 2620-20
When it comes time to upgrade or replace a recip saw, there are a lot of options on the market. Personally, I've loved my cordless SawZall and the way it's performed for many years. In truth, the batteries have started losing their power over time, but the saw still works like new (with a few little bugs here and there, of course). Milwaukee's latest incarnation of the tool is the 2620-20 (bare tool). The one I've been using comes from Combo Kit 2690-24, which includes several other tools that I'll be posting soon (LOVE the circular saw!). The 2602-20 retains the overall spirit of my older unit, the 6516-02, but has some nice new features that I think make it a better tool.

My Top 3 SawZall Features
In use, I've determined there are 3 things I really like about the newer version of the SawZall.
Weight: OK, the 2620-20 is lighter (by a couple of ounces) and that helps. Admittedly it may be more psychological than anything else, but it feels lighter in use, which may be a result of Number 2.
Improved Grip: The redesigned body of the SawZall is slimmer and narrower at the front of the tool. It makes for an easier grip near the blade. The older model felt a bit clunkier to me in comparison. Additional rubber over-mold also helps with retaining your grip on the tool.
Blade Change: This was my favorite update. While the old twist-to-change blade holder held it firmly in place, the new lever-change (Milwaukee calls it QUIK-LOK) mechanism is worlds better in my opinion. The old version tended to get gummed up and the blades would become hard to remove. The lever is faster and easier to use.
Trigger Lock: While not in my Top 3 favorites, the new locking switch is different, as well. Instead of the forward and backward slider of old, the new switch is a left-to-right slider with 3 positions. This means that you're not applying forward pressure to the switch, which I found tended to make me press the trigger if I was engaging the lock with the same hand with which I was holding the tool.
SawZall 2620-20 Opinion
Overall, I think you'll find the updated SawZall has retained the heart of what makes it the go-to tool in its category. In addition, they've updated some features that make it even better and easier to use. Vibration was about the same (maybe slightly less), and overall performance was as expected.
Their M18 line is impressive overall and if you're already in possession of any of these tools, the SawZall shouldn't disappoint you in performance. I'm betting this tool will stay in action with me for several years. It's time for the old V18 to get some well-deserved rest.
