Extreme Beam OSR-800 LED Headlamp
Extreme Beam OSR-800 Headlamp Review
Extreme Beam's OSR-800 is marketed primarily as an LED Headlamp designed for use during camping, hiking, and other outdoor expeditions, but it's really an all-around utility headlamp flashlight that's right at home in your tool box or glove box.
OSR-800 Features
Right out of the package, the OSR-800 is easy to use and has some nice features that will come in handy just about anywhere.
- 160 Lumens
- 550 Foot Range
- Weight - 4 oz. (with Batteries)
- Modes-High/Low/Flash/SOS
- Focusable Beam
- Adjustable Headband
- 90 Degree Tilt
- Water Resistant
The OSR-800 beam is incredibly bright and can be adjusted from a small pinpoint for seeing at a distance, all the way out to a wide patten that can illuminate an entire 8-foot wall from a distance of about 12 feet.
The focus-adjustment ring is of the push-pull variety. That makes it pretty simple to adjust with just one hand.
It even has a beam-scale printed on it, although it would be hard to see while wearing the headlamp, unless you have extendable eyes :)
The strap is adjustable and comfy, and the over-the-top strap is easily removed if you prefer just the head-band style.
The LED chip is rated at 50,000 hours. That translates into over 5 1/2 years of constant use, so it's not likely you'll wear it out any time soon. Extreme Beam's OSR-800 runs on 3 AAA batteries, which install by splitting the case in two by depressing the release buttons on each side. The unit's average run-time is 24 hours on a fresh set of batteries, depending on the mode selected, of course.
Extreme Beam OSR-800 Review
Overall, this is a high-quality, well constructed LED headlamp that appears would provide years of rugged use. The SOS feature is handy, especially if you plan to use it hiking or camping. There's also a red ring around the barrel of the light that is easily seen from the side. This is a great safety feature if you're changing a tire on the side of the road, where every little bit helps in the avoidance of being hit.
For the under-$30 price, the OSR-800 is a nice addition to your flashlight arsenal, whether you're using it for camping, home improvement, or tactical/survival purposes. I don't think you'll be disappointed in the performance or quality of this headlamp.
